One-time NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder allegation connected with a incident that happened in May, with his counsel submitting a innocent plea on his behalf.

Detention records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an message that he has earlier submitted a documented not guilty declaration to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh added.

According to his detention warrant, Brown is alleged of grabbing a handgun from a safety staffer after a public figure fighting contest in May and shooting two bullets at a man he had clashed with previously. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that a bullet touched his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were purely in defense against the reported person’s violent actions. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his lawful right to defend himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not promptly apprehended because at first police did not recognize Nantambu as a target. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a complete account about the incident to police and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the document states.

According to his digital posts, Brown had been living in Dubai for a number of period. In a message after the incident, Brown stated he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by multiple persons who sought to take my jewelry and cause physical injury to me.”

A level two murder attempt accusation in the state of Florida imposes a maximum fifteen-year incarceration penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the case of a conviction.

Brown has dealt with numerous judicial issues over the time. He earlier had been accused of physical attack of a delivery driver, various domestic violence allegations, neglect to pay family payments and other incidents.
