New England Match Best Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the Patriots secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at their home field with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard TD to finish the New York's initial series
But the Patriots answered in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third period to make it 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the triumph
